Councillor Sergio Isa dos Santos is a Ward Councillor for Ward 54 in the City of Johannesburg. He was born in Johannesburg in 1981. He comes from a HR background before been elected to office in 2011. Councillor Dos Santos started is political career working for the Democratic Alliance as a Constituency Operations Manager from 2009 to 2011.

He was elected into Council in the May 2011 Local Government Elections and has held various positions within the party most notably as Campaign Manager for By-Elections within his Constituency and one of the Campaign Managers that led to the success of the Democratic Alliance in the 2016 National Government Elections.

Councillor Dos Santos was re-elected as Ward Councillor in the 2016 Local Government Elections and subsequently elected as the Chairperson of the Section 79 Oversight Committee on Governance which does oversight on the Executive Mayor’s office and the City Manager’s office.

“Although the standing rules allow for free debate, when closing I quoted Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessing of God be upon him) in an effort to bring calmness to council and an effort to bring unity,” said Dos Santos.

He requested to read the quote and said, “Speaker, before I close I would like to read a quote by Prophet Muhammed. Peace and blessing be upon him. Muhammed quoted in his last sermon 1400 years ago, in fact over 1400 years ago. Speaker, I quote: ‘There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab. Neither is the white superior over the black, nor is the black superior over the white, except by piety’ end quote,” said Dos Santos.

Councillor Dos Santos stated that he believes this is something everyone in the Council aspires to.
